Inspired by Beauty.Life.Michelle I decided to share with you 24 things I have learnt, or been told, in 24 years. Not all of these are original thoughts, I listen to my peers and family when making life choices.. I like to be calculated and confident in what I choose to do.
1. Take Risks: Don't sit on the side lines and think, "Man, I wish I was doing that/going there". Too many times I have chosen to do what I thought was right and responsible opposed to what would make me happy.
2. Travel! You discover more about yourself, can delve into different cultures and learn other languages. You might encounter high stress situations (like being pulled up by customs, say something stupid to a guard or lose your passport - yes, I have done all of these) and learn a lot about yourself, and how you would react.
3. If you're constantly having to force something, such as a relationship, then it's not working. Don't continue.
4. Quality over quantity. Friends come and go, you probably won't have any or very few friends from high school as you get older.
5. People change. You change. Let it happen. Don't force 'old you' if 'new you' wants to shine.
6. Don't take things too seriously. Laugh, let things go and let live.
7. You can do it if you want to do it! Believe in yourself.
8. You will get hate and criticism throughout everything you do. Learn how to deal with it and accept it.
9. Everyone has their own opinions and they don't have to agree with you, especially if they're one of your friends.
10. Be a goof sometimes. Who cares if people think it's weird, you will find people who think it's fun and goof with you.
11. Tell people you love them, hug them and compliment them! They appreciate it and you will both feel good about it.
12. Be genuinely interested in someone/something. It could help in future endeavours.
13. Find the good in unlucky situations. Car broke down, maybe the NRMA (roadside assistant) guy is a hottie?
14. Try as many different things as possible. You might just find a future in something unlikely. I met a professional Roller Derby girl who got into it on a daring first date when she was a teen (but you're never too old to try).
15. Most relevant to me right now! Money is money, listen to your body and think of your health. It's the most important thing you have, not the future materialistic objects you may work towards.
16. Smile.. it makes people feel better. How can anyone be grumpy at a lovely smile? (Some, but they have no soul!)
17. READ! Read books and imagine!
18. Losing someone is hard. Remember the good times you had and smile that you had that time with them.
19. Be alone sometimes. I love working in a team but spending time by myself helps me reevalute things when I'm feeling overwhelmed.
20. Kayak. Or do something water sport-like with friends. I can't explain how hilarious and calming it is at the same time. Getting caught in weeds, fighting currents and crying with laughter when your friend almost gets attacked by giant fish. I hope you all get to experience this. Check out Rebel Life in Sydney.
21. Drink water, eat well and don't focus too much on your weight.
22. Don't listen to those who put you down/bring you down. If you can 'bring the sass', or just ignore them.
23. Got a dream, do it. Then go bigger! Nothing is limitless. Don't have one goal, what will you do once you've achieved it?
24. Think about what you have. You're on the internet reading this so I assume you're doing alright. Think positively about what you have. Many others in this world don't have family or friends to lean on, food in their belly or a roof over their heads.
What are some of the things you have learned? I have some more but I will keep them for a Gala Darling inspired Positive Vibes post.
